Il Belvedere is located in the North-East of Umbria
and is surrounded by a varied countryside, with hills and
mountains as well as farmed land and woodland. The unique
combination of urban and natural scenery in this part of Italy
offers guests staying at Il Belvedere a number of possibilities
to explore the local rich cultural and natural heritage.
One can enjoy the wealth of works of art in the small towns
of Terni, Orvieto and Narni or visit the small sanctuaries
dedicated to St. Francis, scattered along the road leading
from Spoleto to Assisi, through Trevi and Spello. Perugia,
with its thirteenth century central fountain Fontana Maggiore,
and the small towns of Todi and Amelia are all places of prominent
historical and archeological interest.
The
location of Il Belvedere is perfect for an itinerary starting
from the medieval town of Gubbio and its historic buildings.
This lovely town holds the Corsa dei Ceri (Race of the Candle),
a colourful and spectacular festival of ancient origins, which
is run on May 15th. From Gubbio one can reach Umbertide, whose
features include a small fourteenth century square (Piazza
S. Francesco) and the impressive Rocca, a medieval fortress
where the Center for Contemporary Art is located. Towards
the north, one can find the Renaissance town of Città di Castello
and visit the Pinacoteca Comunale, located in a building of
historic interest, and the Museo Capitolare. While heading
back towards Umbertide, one can enjoy the natural enviroment
of Lake Trasimeno and its beautiful woods.
